Dawn and Dusk Timelapse

  • 1 of 3 | Sliding over mountain past green bushes and above the fog layer at dusk

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Facing east at sunset on a mountain landscape, the fog appears to very slowly roil on the foot of the mountain in a lack of wind, and the camera moves perceptively on a dolly leftwards. The sky comprises a quarter of the frame and is a spectrum of reds to blues, brightening towards the right of the frame. The mountainous butte on the left of the frame is snow covered.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    6 seconds and 26 frames.

  • 3 of 7 | Napali Coast beach sunset scene

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

On the way to sunset in Kauai, by the Napali Coast, multiple layers of clouds move. These clouds quickly roil away from the camera and seemingly following the headlands are on the medium side of density, but they do not need to be heavy to foretell rain is on the way when it’s so humid. Observe the distant layer of headlands which seems to be different layer in the background, slightly glowing. This is due to the moisture in the air. The beach is visible on a small area of the lower left, and the ocean has many small waves rushing in.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 14 frames.

  • Stark gold light rays slowly move around rolling lower clouds at sunset

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A hole in the cloud cover, and one smaller, scudding cloud in between that and the observer is all it takes for potent light rays to show on the humid air near sunset. The cloud itself creates the shade on the glow and understanding that makes the crepuscular rays logical to understand. The sunlight has radiant intensity, and this shows to the observer the details of the landscape below; trees on vast hills surrounding some countryside and a small pond far away.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 24 frames.

  • Brightening pink dawn over boreal forest in winter

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

White spruce and other species of trees in the northern Canadian boreal forest stand below the pre-dawn sky, comprising about ninety percent of the frame. Mid-level clouds are quite detailed further near the horizon behind tree shapes and are more nebulous and stratified overhead closer turn more vibrant purples and pinks. The camera faces the west at sunrise at clip’s end.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 26 frames.

  • Sun going down over Icelandic ocean flowing under clouds lit by light

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The ocean flows hundreds of feet below, with the foreground the edge of a grassy cliff, initially comprising four-tenths of the frame. The frame pans upwards as the sun goes down, illuminating some of the stratus clouds from below. They are blown in the strong ocean winds, the same ones pushing the waves far below. The sun is shown going below the horizon. In the distance on the left, another headland of Iceland is apparent.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    16 seconds and 18 frames.

  • Cargo ship exiting bay from Marin Headlands at sunset on ocean

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Looking south-southwest at dusk, post-sunset, towards the Pacific Ocean and Lincoln Park on the opposite end of the bay. Low tide, or wind, is responsible for the water’s direction. At the end of the opposing headlands, Seal Rocks, an outcrop of stones just off the beach, are near the center of the frame. Well past the time of day where details are apparent to the naked eye, the outline of a cargo ship leaves the bay, its lights are on as it begins a sea journey at night. The very steep Marin Headlands, the middle ground, is silhouetted on the ocean, in the lower right.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    15 seconds and 24 frames.
